- Annual State of Reliability Reports
Analytical reviews of the Bulk-Power System’s reliability performance data over the previous twelve months. Each report identifies key industry-wide trends and notes “Actions in Progress” taken to mitigate risk. Available from 2012–present. - NERC “Lessons Learned”
Short digests of failure events or other “unexpected” challenges experienced during Bulk-Power System operations, including “Corrective Actions” taken. Available from 2010–present. - NERC Reliability Assessments
Seasonal, annual, and special assessments of the “overall reliability, adequacy, and associated risks” that could affect the reliable operation of the Bulk-Power System. Each Long-Term Reliability Assessment evaluates grid reliability with projections ten years out. Available from 1992–present. - NERC “Alerts”
A listing of NERC’s high-priority “Alerts” to industry on critical actions to be taken to ensure system reliability. NERC Alerts may be informational or binding. Available from 2008–present.

A listing of standards-related, informational, and other filings made by NERC to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 2024. - Reliability Standards
A listing of active NERC Reliability Standards that are “mandatory and enforceable” in the U.S. Available as .xlsx files with links to each standard document, its implementation plan, and project page. - Reliability Standards Under Development
A listing of open projects proposing new NERC standards, or for their review, modification, or interpretation. Proposal documents, draft versions, public comments, and balloting information is included for each. Open projects are listed by NERC priority for completion. - Standards, Compliance, and Enforcement Bulletins
A digest of ongoing standards development projects, compliance and enforcement news, and registration/attendance details for upcoming workshops, conferences, and committee meetings. Available from 2021–present.
- 2023 Long-Term Reliability Assessment (December 2023)
An “independent” and peer-reviewed study of Bulk-Power System reliability and resource adequacy through 2033, the Long-Term Reliability Assessment is NERC’s flagship assessment report. For 2023, the report is supplemented by an infographic, video, and supplemental data tables and charts. - 2024 NERC Work Plan Priorities (December 2023)
A brief statement of the ERO Enterprise’s “strategic area of focus,” this document sets performance goals and highlights budget priorities for both NERC and its Regional Entities for 2023–2025. - ERO Reliability Risk Priorities Report (August 2023)
A biennial product of NERC’s Reliability Issues Steering Committee, the report ranks 11 identified risks to grid reliability across 5 “Risk Profiles,” and “provides industry with strategic direction” for mitigation. - Annual Report, Compliance Monitoring & Enforcement (February 2023)
Produced annually, the report surveys NERC’s compliance and enforcement program, its oversight activities, and presents summarized statistics on incidents of noncompliance, including discovery methods and the NERC Reliability Standards involved.

Periodic staff reports analyzing reliability and markets data that Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) and Independent System Operators (ISO) are required to report to FERC.

A staff primer on the energy industries within FERC’s purview, including crude oil and natural gas markets, wholesale electricity markets, and gas-electric interdependency. - Reliability Explainer (August 2023)
A brief overview of how FERC and NERC define reliability for the Bulk-Power System, and develop and enforce technical Reliability Standards for its operation. - FERC Order No. 901, Reliability Standards to Address Inverter-Based Resources (October 2023)
Order No. 901 directs NERC to develop Reliability Standards addressing the effects of inverter-based generation resources (i.e., those that produce direct current (DC) power, changed to alternating current (AC) by power electronic devices) on the reliable operation of the Bulk-Power System. Submission of new or modified standards is required starting by November 2024. - Joint FERC–NERC Winter Storm Elliott Inquiry Report (October 2023)
A staff investigative report into the December 2022 “extreme cold weather event” that caused upwards of 5,400 MW of firm load shed across the Bulk-Power System in the Eastern United States.
